If you don't speak to your cat about 'nip...

Who will?

Any questions?

Yes, that's the cat I call MommyCat, who is the source of all the kittens I keep feeding, sheltering, and trying (and failing) to save. She almost always looks grouchy, but not when she's relaxing in her catnip patch.

  1. What are your thoughts about having her spayed?

    1. I would love to.
Unfortunately, none of the local-ish vets want to work on strays.
I've been trying for years to find a rescue group that'll help. None of the New Mexico groups- which are much closer- will help because they won't cross state lines. The Texas groups say I'm out of their area. I've been burned a few times by people who say they'll help, but when it comes down to it, they'll say, "Sorry, I'm full right now" or some other excuse.

Now, if I do almost all the work- trap her, drive her 90-100 miles to the vet, pay for the surgery, wait all day to bring her home, then take care of her a day or two while she recovers, there are a few who will do it. But right now she has a litter hidden somewhere that is too young to take her away all day (or longer).
That's why I just keep feeding her.

I did rescue one of her kittens about 4 years ago- my son has him. That's the only long-term survivor. There's one survivor from her March litter, and I've been trying to find someone who'll adopt her without any luck. I almost took in one of her littermates a few months ago, but he tested positive for FeLV and I couldn't risk my indoor cats getting it. He has since disappeared- I hope he got adopted because he was really sweet.

    2. Thanks for the explanation. I will send you an email with some more thoughts about it.
