Many misunderstand Declaration of Independence

(My Eastern New Mexico News column for September 20, 2017)




"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." - Thomas Jefferson, in the Declaration of Independence

Those are some of the wisest words from American history. Sadly, they are almost entirely ignored today, other than occasional lip service to keep up the charade.

As stated, all humans are born equal; with identical rights. This doesn't mean people are equal in ability or that outcomes are guaranteed. "Unalienable" means no one has the power to separate anyone from their rights in any way for any reason. No one has the right to deny anyone their right to life, liberty, their pursuit of happiness, or any of the other rights which it admits those three are merely "among". A government office doesn't grant this power, nor does "national security" or any other excuse.

Government is not the "Creator" of the people, nor of their rights. Equality and rights do not come from government, nor are they only possessed by people under particular governments in certain lands. The Declaration doesn't claim any rights depend on citizenship, or even residency, but exist in all humans, for all times, wherever they may be.

I wish more people understood this.

In fact, I wish more people would read and understand the Declaration of Independence, noticing how it applies to today's situation. The US government has become far more tyrannical than was the government of King George III. Eighteenth Century Americans were bothered enough by the king's violations to divorce Great Britain; backing their decision with deadly force when their right of self-determination was opposed.

Less than one hundred years later, these lessons had already been forgotten. They had become an inconvenience to the ambitions of a home-grown tyrant.

The Declaration doesn't say the union which became the United States of America was to be a suicide pact; no one able to leave after joining. In fact, it states the exact opposite quite clearly. All political bands are dissolvable, as a human right, when the rights of the people are violated by a government which refuses to back down. Notwithstanding the outcome of Abraham Lincoln's war. Lincoln was on the wrong side of that bloody debate.

If you respect the Declaration of Independence, you can pretend its principles don't still apply to each and every person alive, but only at the expense of your honesty.

  1. The declaration and the constitution are the what where when who how and why of the USA. The declaration lays the foundation of why. It declares then explains why.

    The foundation, the premise, of that why is a simplified explanation of libertarianism.

    What is self evident truth? Sounds like he means reality to me, thus not necessary to explain. Duh.

    "..that all men are created equal,..."

    What does that mean? It means we are naturally free individuals, that there are no natural rulers such as with ants. Our rights are universal and equal.

    God and reality and nature says so; that we have rights. They are that which are a condition of being human, like breathing and being free thinking sovereign individuals.

    "..that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

    Sounds like he means human rightful existence, doing what humans do, describing what is "human being", hence Life. Liberty is essentially respecting that, valuing life and rights. And the pursuit of happiness is about freedom, doing whatever it is that makes you happy, provided it is what you are at liberty to do.

    The constitution contradicts this premise. You don't have things like gun rights. You have the natural inalienable instinct of self preservation, the protection of your self and property and family and friends/community. It is not limited to guns or specific property or relevant to a state and/or militia. You should be able to buy an armored vehicle or gunship helicopter without any permissions.

    You don't have a right to property and privacy except when a man who says magic words has a reason and describes it well. You simply have a right to property and privacy, ..irrespective of their reasons or pseudo-magic bullshit.

    When the constitution was signed, the fate of the USA was sealed. It would fail, but how long will it work? It didn't. Scrap that garbage.

    And you can't explain that in any reasonable fashion or otherwise to brainwashed zombie state-tards. They are not going to stop demanding systematic violence. Everything needs to be wrecked all to hell and a lot of people need to die in order to correct anything.

    And it doesn't do any good unless you kill and wreck EVERYTHING. ..not just a few million here or there. It has to be everything all at once, like a clean sweep. Otherwise it is probably not worth the effort.

    I would stash some libertarians and a bunch of children in a hole somewhere and unleash global nuclear and biological war upon everyone if I had some.

    Where can we buy a multi-billion dollar advanced libertarian military industrial complex? How do you raise money to kill almost everyone?

      Promise a future payout-- a share of the loot that will be unowned after the holocaust. You know, the way governments raise money.

  2. why not use such resources to leave this crowded rock?

    Liberty and freedom are found in sparsely populated frontiers. then die in a few generations of squatters. everywhere. always.

    Liberty minded folks should lead the migration, and earn freedom again.
