So long, JPFO, and thanks for the memories.

The Second Amendment Foundation has taken over JPFO. Which means, no matter what else happens, JPFO is dead. Its zombified corpse may serve as a pretty little meat puppet (and fund raiser) for the SAF for a while, but make no mistake, it is dead and gone.

Massad Ayoob approves, which should be enough to make any liberty lover pause until the chills subside. Ayoob is a well-known "gun rights advocate" who always puts enforcers and their "safety" and "authority" above actual gun rights, which he places beneath State whims, anyway (according to the stuff of his I have read in the past). If he weren't an actual cop he would still be an enthusiastic copsucker. One simply can't overlook that huge failing.

I will be removing all references to JPFO from KentForLiberty.com over the next few days, but I won't edit out the references from the past on this blog. Aaron Zelman left an important legacy- which has now been crapped all over by anti-liberty bigots and the traitors of the JPFO board of directors.

Too bad those "directors" didn't take one of the reasonable alternatives which were offered, but chose to destroy JPFO, instead. What does that tell you about them, personally?

It is a sad day in the ongoing- and now smaller- fight for real gun rights and human liberty.

R.I.P, JPFO. You will be missed.

  1. They're gone

Claire and others have done what they could.

There's now an open niche for a small, hard corps of principled gun writers to educate about the dangers of gun control and where it leads.

With the opening of that niche, there's also the opportunity to leave behind some of the absolute shite that appeared on jpfo that was unconnected to educating about the dangers of gun control - such as rants against homosexuals.

I wonder how well inheriting that divisive little bit of the legacy will go down when it comes to SAF's future fund raising?

It will be interesting to see who brings the new group together

    1. I never saw the rants against homosexuals, but I suppose that's a risk with any group which has a religious foundation. Back in 2007 or so I had a long, very nice phone conversation with Aaron Zelman and he never expressed anything other than a real love and respect for Liberty.

Several years ago I decided I just can't join any more groups. Each and every group I have joined either dies or evolves into something I can't support. That makes me sad, too, since I recognize the value and power of voluntary cooperation.

    2. What "rants against homosexuals"? Got a reference for that? A web search on "JPFO homosexual" turned up one hit at JPFO; that was in the FAQ (http://jpfo.org/filegen-a-m/faq.htm): "Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, 13 million Jews, gypsies, homosexuals, the mentally ill, and others, who were unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated."

      That doesn't exactly sound anti-gay.

On the other hand, there was the article grouping JPFO together with the Pink Pistols (http://www.vice.com/en_uk/read/getting-to-know-americas-alternative-pro-gun-rights-groups).

    3. Eh, that would not make me give up on groups. You just have to recognize up front that, being human institutions, they have a limited useful lifetime. Lots of bad effects inevitably seep in (bureaucratic imperative, emphasis on fundraising, you name it). Just need to know when to walk away...

    5. The bitching about homosexuals was back about 2006 or 2007. I remember the content clearly enough, JPFO had been one of my regular reads, after that, JPFO dropped off my list.

several aspects of it stuck in my throat:

      1) Is the platform for the purpose of educating to prevent violent encroachment on the right to the means of self defence? or just a bitchy blog?

      2) what purpose is gained by telling a sizeable proportion of your potential sympathetic audience that you have a bit of paper saying that your g-d doesn't like them?

protection of rights is not advanced by bitching about groups which neither break legs nor pick pockets - however distasteful (no pun intended) you may find individuals of that group and their personal lives.

JPFO had a unique message to spread - whereas bitchy bigoted sites are ten a penny

whether that bitching is about gays, jooooz, muslims, the Welsh, group du jour...

  2. I never saw any reference to homosexuals myself, but wouldn't have been worried about it if I had. I can't seriously imagine that Aaron or JPFO advocated aggression toward them, and that would be my only concern. People are perfectly free to hate homosexuals or anyone else if they wish. They simply are not free to harm them.

I won't have anything to do with SAF or Gottlieb, so that means I will no longer be writing for JPFO's dead body either. My articles will continue to be available at my own blog, and for reposting by whomever wishes to do so.

I'll do nothing to enrich Gottlieb or anyone else who aligns themselves with compromising our innate authority over our own lives and property.

  3. Ayoob was NEVER "an actual cop". He traded upon his shooting skill as a youngster and his reputation as a gun writer later to get gigs as a pseudo cop, but he never worked full time as a cop. He's a wannabe and a poser.

  4. It's a damn shame, and I hope all the unpleasant predictions about JPFO's future turn out to be incorrect. But I must agree: JPFO was the only organization I advertised in my sidebar, and that's gone now. Put not your faith in organizations.

  5. What about Gun Owners of America? Are they still around?
I was a member many years ago when they were an uncompromising alternative to the pussy NRA.

    1. I am also a life member of GOA. A while back there were some things in one of their mailings that disturbed me, pushing some "conservative" cause that wasn't really about guns. Unfortunately, I can't remember now what it was. Immigration, perhaps. Anyway, I was never quite as enthusiastic about them as I was JPFO. Just a matter of taste.

    2. I'm a JPFO & GOA Life member also.
Enlightened Rougue, why not check out ww.GunOwners.org website, see what they have been doing for all of us gun owners since you left them. Surely the all set-up & ready to mail postcards they mail to each member's house every month , alone is worth the $20 a year dues.
To anyone that cares to read-----You might not agree with any Pro-2A Organization 100 % of the time, but with-out any of them we would all be screwd. I don't agree with my wife 100 % but I still love her. The same with some of my best friends also. But when an Organization does something wrong they're disowned & dumped & bad mouthed all over the internet. Again, without any we would all be screwed.
For more than 10 yrs I've been volunteering for my State's 2A Organization (I say volunteering because most State or local org chairman, directors, etc do not get paid a dime, still have to pay membership dues & spend lots of their free time----------for nothing, Waste plenty of time on the phone with people that call to ask lots of questions, etc & never became a member any way. I've heard every excuse in the book on why most gun owner are a member of no organization at all. ---and many times vote for the same Politian that passed a law the gun owner was complaining about ...or even worse, not vote at all. This is from over 10 yrs of talking to people at gun shows, gun ranges, gun stores etc. My reason for posting this is not to make enimies or piss people off but to get gun owners to look at the big picture. Fighting amongst ourselves makes gun haters happy as all hell. Let's stop making them happy.

    1. I try. My only condition is Rightful Liberty, which leaves room for just about everyone. But many people can't get past having their specific hate incorporated into "the agenda". They insist on "borders", and Sharia Law (of whatever religious persuasion), and dividing along the illusory "left vs right" divide for a thousand different "reasons".
I agree, liberty lovers need to simply come together to support liberty, and once it is achieved, they can fight about the petty details. So, why is that so hard?

    4. I have been involved on the sidelines of the IIIpercentsociety. I support them, but really can't afford to even consider joining. All the joining I did was back when I had more money coming in regularly.

And, yes, I absolutely, positively believe in private property. Look for posts under the "property rights" tag here.

    6. If you're talking this, I've got it covered.

If, on the other hand, if you're talking about JPFO being private property- I agree. They can destroy it if they want- and I believe they did.

    7. So who owns that ground then in your mind was it not bought with blood sweat or money at some point in the the past by your ancestors or mine....

    8. Here's my answer to that: link (Almost five years ago? Where does time go?)

    9. And, even if it was bought, it still isn't owned collectively by "The USA".

    10. And my question wasn't answered by the link and you didn't tell me with its not owned by the USA...Who owns the land Kent or does no one own it...

      Delete
    11. Which land? If land has a real, individual owner, then there's who owns the land. If it doesn't- or is "federal land", "state land", or some other collectivist, socialistic nonsense, it has no owner.
      Maybe you missed this: link
If private property rights prevent "immigration", then great. If not, too bad.

I'm not sure why this debate showed up on this completely unrelated topic, though.

  8. Kent,

+100 on MA, took his MAG40 class and needed a shower after a day in class and not b/c it was hot at the range. He needed a stomach pump after all the state fellating on a daily basis.

There is no political solution; only the philosophical terraforming you are doing one disobedient serf at a time will change anything.

Keep on maintaining and training and stocking up on G3 and skills.

As a fellow abolitionist, we just have to maintain the creed and teach folks that the ownership of other humans beings is repugnant and immoral.

  10. I agree that Ayoob never met a cop-shooting that he didn't like. He has always been an apologist for cops, probably because he feared losing the income from all the wannabe SWAT cops who took his classes if he bad-mouthed a single instance of cops abusing their authority (_and_ abusing the citizens they were sworn to protect and serve). I spent thirteen years in harness, but got out when it (as did the department I worked for) changed from keeping the peace to "enforcing the law", so it's not like I hate all cops. Just many of them, now that they have learned they can shoot dogs, the homeless, and all other citizens with impunity. When was the last time you heard of a cop who actually suffered any consequences - other than days off _with_ pay, which they love. Frankly, makes me wonder how many do it in hopes of a paid vacation? When so many of them started shaving their heads, I knew the skinhead/Aryan Nation types had taken over. (That being said, I believe Wilson in Ferguson may well have been simply defending himself.)

I'm making a SWAG (Scientific Wild-Assed Guess) here, but I imagine SAF - with the help of the money they accrue from their aggressive, NRA-style fund-raising - provided financial inducements to the JPFO board in order to secretly arrange the absorption of JPFO into SAF - presenting it as a done deal, were it not for people like Claire blowing the whistle on them. It was, in fact, still a done deal, but wasn't accomplished completely in the dark, as Gottlieb and his ilk had planned. I'm hoping that whatever Gottlieb and SAF spent turns into a loss when the majority of JPFO's base severs their relationship with JPFO and SAF.

I'm a Life Member of GOA, myself. Larry Pratt and the folks who work for/with him have their hearts in the right place. No, they are not perfect, but they are very good, and the best available to those of us who still support what was supposed to be protected by the Second Amendment.

    1. I've been a life member of GOA for years- and someone else reminded me what I had found so distasteful about GOA a while back: Their support of Joe Stali--- I mean, Arpaio made the bile rise in my throat.
It wasn't enough to make me run from them. Yet. But it definitely put them on my "watch, carefully" list. I haven't been watching as carefully as I should, being somewhat disenchanted with groups right now

  11. JPFO was the only real gun rights org in this country. What drew me to JPFO was Aaron's take on carring a weapon: you do not need governments permission to carry, that right was given to you by your Creator/ G-D. Miss Aaron a lot.
