I don't have any statistics to prove it, but I'd bet most people have a greater chance of being killed by cops than by freelance thugs-- as long as you do your best to avoid sketchy people, places, or activities.

Cops are 1/5th of 1% of the population but commit 6% of all homicides.
ReplyDeleteI'd bet that if the occupations of the killers in the other 94% of homicides were tracked, no single one would be as high as 6%.
I'll bet you'd be right. (Even if you counted "mafia hit man" as an occupation.)
DeleteOf course, homicide doesn't mean murder-- a self-defense killing is still a homicide. Do they even tally ethically correct killings vs murders where cops are concerned? I'll bet they don't.
