Dear Mr. Obama:
I’m planning to move my family and extended family into Mexico for my health, and I would like to ask you to assist me.
We’re planning to simply walk across the border from the U.S. into Mexico, and we’ll need your help to make a few arrangements.
We plan to skip all the legal stuff like visas, passports, immigration quotas and laws.
I’m sure they handle those things the same way you do here. So, would you mind telling your buddy, the President of Mexico , that I’m on my way over?
Please let him know that I will be expecting the following:
1. Free medical care for my entire family.
2. English-speaking Government bureaucrats for all services I might need, whether I use them or not.
3. Please print all Mexican Government forms in English.
4. I want my grandkids to be taught Spanish by English-speaking (bi-lingual) teachers.
5. Tell their schools they need to include classes on American culture and history.
6. I want my grandkids to see the American flag on one of the flag poles at their school.
7. Please plan to feed my grandkids at school for both breakfast and lunch.
8. I will need a local Mexican driver’s license so I can get easy access to government services.
9. I do plan to get a car and drive in Mexico, but I don’t plan to purchase car insurance, and I probably won’t make any special effort to learn local traffic laws.
10. In case one of the Mexican police officers does not get the memo from their president to leave me alone, please be sure that every patrol car has at least one English-speaking officer.
11. I plan to fly the U.S. flag from my housetop, put U.S. flag decals on my car, and have a gigantic celebration on July 4th. I do not want any complaints or negative comments from the locals.
12. I would also like to have a nice job without paying any taxes, or have any labor or tax laws enforced on any business I may start.
13. Please have the president tell all the Mexican people to be extremely nice and never say critical things about me or my family, or about the strain we might place on their economy.
14. I want to receive free food stamps.
15. Naturally, I’ll expect free rent subsidies.
16. I’ll need income tax credits so that although I don’t pay Mexican taxes, I’ll receive money from the government.
17. Please arrange it so that the Mexican Government pays $4,500.00 to help me buy a new car.
18. Oh yes, I almost forgot, please enroll me free into the Mexican Social Security program so that I’ll get a monthly income in retirement.
I know this is an easy request because you already do all these things for all of his people who walk over to the U.S. from Mexico. I am sure that the President of Mexico won’t mind returning the favor if you ask him nicely.

Yes, it surely does look stupid, but not for the reason the original author may have thought. Obviously he wouldn't see the truth, no matter how plainly it presented itself.
Being an obvious State worshiper (as long as it's a flavor he likes) he'd never see how all those complaints go away when you eliminate the fundamental problem: The State.
No government ("public") kinderprisons; no welfare; no government "licenses", bureaucraps, or paperwork; no "taxation". If these things- or the way they are administered- are really upsetting you, eliminate the fundamental problem.
Yeah, the solution really is that simple, yet getting people to demand it- and expect- it is the hardest job there is.

Odd how many conservatives despise what they call the "free shit army", yet still have their own sacred cows that have to be paid for from "public money" (i.e. yours and mine).
ReplyDeleteOver here in the UK we have a similar immigration scare going on, ours being immigrants from north Africa, the Middle East and eastern Europe. Conservatives always want to spend *more* of this "public money" on securing the borders, rather than addressing the problem at the root and taking on the sacred cows of the NHS and the welfare state.
People today can't imagine how these things could possibly be provided without state interference. Well, here's a clue: The NHS was founded in 1948, but most of the hospitals it uses are much older than that. They were the old charitable hospitals, mostly paid for by philanthropy. If you could afford to pay, you did. If you really couldn't, the charitable aspect kicked into play. Philanthropy was typically conspicuous, because it was respected - you maintained own respect in the eyes of your peers by paying your own way, you boosted it immensely if you also paid someone else's.
Most people could afford to pay! Insurance (medical and unemployment) was provided both by insurance companies and by the Friendly Societies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friendly_society). At the time the NHS was introduced, 80% of Britons were members of a Friendly Society. Most of the other 20% were well-off enough that they didn't need to be. Civil society took care of itself.
The con used to launch the NHS was that medical care would be free. It's never free. There ain't no such thing as a free lunch - *somebody* always pays. In this case of course, it was the very people who thought they were voting themselves something for nothing.
The cost was more than just financial, though. Let government take over any function (from medical care to education to self-defence) and people quickly forget that they can actually provide those things for themselves. People almost become domesticated.
Yep. If you want a government military, or "secure borders", or cops, or someone to regulate abortions, you are just as big a "welfare queen" as any member of the FSA.
Delete"Welfare" has put a big dent in charity, yet charity still survives because people are generally charitable.
I don't see a response from the original e-mailer but the tone of the message is so obviously satirical that I expect he is in complete agreement with the points you made even if you missed those he was making. As long as Mexican society fails to provide its people with the opportunity to provide for themselves better than they can get by working in the "illegal" underground economy of this country (and sponging off the productive class here just like the majority of the domestic population does as well!), then building walls; legal or physical, is a futile effort indeed. Ending the socialistic dole in our country - for EVERYONE - native born or immigrant, would eliminate the most egregious points in the e-mail senders screed and do so justly just as the bulk of abortions would be eliminated if they were only obtained by those who paid for them with funds belonging to themselves and provided by those voluntarily choosing to do so.
ReplyDeleteThe problem in Mexico is the same as the problem in America: too much State. And, yes, ending all welfare would solve most of it. Eliminating the "laws" that require State permission for doing things every human already has a right to do would solve the rest.
