The heart of the matter

Here's a diamond from Kn@ppster:

Governments are nothing more or less than gigantic criminal conspiracies, overgrown street gangs with no claims whatsoever to legitimacy. They are funded by theft and the basis of all their operations is aggression. They're no more entitled to keep their activities secret than any other gaggle of murderers, rapists and thieves is.

Yep.  And the blame lies with each and every individual who tries to hide behind "the job".  It's not someone else's fault- if you have a government "job", don't point fingers.

  1. I've read that Iceland was an anarchist society for a while many centuries ago. It would be a good idea to conduct a study of how successful it was.

  2. I think that has been done.

But don't make the mistake of thinking medieval Iceland and today's world would have similar experiences with anarchy- today's technology and instant communications are complete game-changers. A free society today would have many more tools to "make it work" than were available even half a generation ago. And that is only becoming more true with each passing day. If you can avoid being killed by the thugs in the short term, the future may be better than you can imagine.

  3. "...It would be a good idea to conduct a study of how successful it was..." ("It" = anarchist "society")

Common usage transcendental ideals ("reification") make it almost impossible for most of us to grasp or even imagine liberty and freedom -- let alone "anarchy" (<== pdf). "Society", like "government", is an abstraction -- as David Calderwood describes it: "A Demon In Need of Exorcism".

I am a sovereign state. That makes me an "anarchist society".

I am free. That's all I really need to know.
