How many times have you been minding your own business, just talking to other liberty lovers, when some statist troll pops up and says: "Show me how your imaginary anarchist society will work!" or some other version of "It can't work!"
It happens to me all the time.
But, when I direct them to this blog, to my books, to my Dispatches from Libertopia blog, and to my website, they whine that they don't want to read all that stuff. They won't even bother to watch simple videos! It's "too much" or not what they wanted to hear.
They don't want links that would require them to lift a finger. Clicking is hard! And they might have to think!
Nope, they want to be spoonfed. They want everything to be written anew, just for them. And, of course, they won't listen anyway, because they really just want to whine.
While I won't argue that it isn't about intellectual laziness, I posit that it is more about ego. ...or rather rooted in the ego and self image.
ReplyDeletePeople are trained from birth to define and categorize their identity according to social norms and institutions. They build their whole lives around what they are told to be.
When you question or criticize those institutions or norms, it is perceived as a personal attack, as they have their ego firmly attached.
It doesn't matter what you argue, how reasonable simple or easy you make it. They don't want to understand because it will reset their entire perception of their existence and self image.
They are too egotistical to understand to the degree necessary for change to a peaceful coexistence. They are never going to get it.
That's why you have to kill them all if you truly want a Libertarian society. You have to start fresh with a new generation of children to teach the right way.
