I replied that what she is advocating is putting some toddlers in charge of the other toddlers, and that this won't ever work well.
It reminds me of the Robert LeFevre quote:
"If men are good, you don't need government; if men are evil or ambivalent, you don't dare have one."
Just where do supporters of cops think the police recruits come from, if not from among the rest of the individuals in "society"? And just how do they believe cops are "better" than the "society" from which they come?
If cops are "good" enough to do the right thing, then so are the majority of people, and since "we" vastly outnumber the bad guys, "we" don't need cops.
However, the sad truth is that cops and freelance bad guys share the same kind of personality, as multiple studies have discovered. They are much worse- less ethical and more prone to aggression- than most people. The power and illusion of "authority" that goes with the "job" attracts psychopaths who see the "job" as an opportunity to molest you without much risk of facing real consequences.
So, yeah, lets give them power and bow to their imagined "authority" to set and enforce our "boundaries"- and see how it works out.

A significant and growing number of cops are military veterans. On the surface, it seems to be a logical career choice, but one must remember that soldiers are supposed to fight wars against enemy troops while cops (whether they actually do or not) are supposed to protect and serve the local public. While I applaude those williing to make the sacrafice of military service, it has to be difficult to set aside military thinking just because one wears a different uniform.
ReplyDeleteSee here we go again, applauding military service. Again with the broken paradigm of our side is good and whoever we fight must be bad by virtue of our esteemed political class which has never, ever, ever gone to war for such sordid ideals as profit, or worse.
ReplyDeleteYou can sympathize with the soldier; after all he is conned at a young age, but by celebrating military service you are doing the liar’s work for them. We can love our country without exporting death and destruction, and in any case, that death and destruction will ultimately be turned against us.
Yeah... I was kinda ignoring that. What can I say?
ReplyDeleteMilitary "service" is only in service of the bad guys- it helps my life not one iota. And cops are exactly the same. To make a distinction where none exists bewilders me. Both are armed government employees doing the will of political monsters who wish the innocent to be molested and violated.
No one "serves" in the military. A cashier at Walmart, or a meth cooker, serves in a much more real capacity.
Kent, I think your writing is superb and I appreciate your logic. I am a bit new to your blog, but certainly intend to be back.
