Statist attempts to discredit the alternative

I'm sure you've heard some of these:

"Anarchists are 'useful idiots' for totalitarians."
Sure, because statism has been so successful at keeping totalitarians at bay for thousands of years.

"Anarchists are childish."
Because it's not like any backwards tribe 20,000 years ago- or any schoolyard bully today- could have come up with the bright idea of ordering others around and taking their stuff.

"Anarchists just hate everything civilization has given them."
Hmmm. The way I see it I hate The State for interfering and preventing civilization from developing even more good stuff. Society and civilization are held back by the State- every time, everywhere States arise.

If you examine a statist objection to liberty, it always falls apart quickly.

  1. Good points Kent.
Totalitarians could not exist without states.
Anarchy inherently requires one to be self-sufficient, the very definition of adult while the state requires obedience and submission of all to its authority, like children to their parents.
Anarchy promotes peaceful cooperation while the state is institutionalized violence.

    1. Oh yeah. I saw that one yesterday.

Because, obviously "reality" shows that the only way to get anything done is through theft and coercion. No one would ever cooperate without being forced!

I just walked away from a debate (?) on Facebook where a guy was going off about "government isn't the problem, you just have to get the right guys to run it". And "I NEVER SAID ANYTHING ABOUT TAXING PRIVATE PROPERTY! OR USING VIOLENCE!!" The final comment of his I read was saying you've got to be smart and wise to keep the "one world government" types from overthrowing "our Constitution" etc. Sometimes, for sanity, you just have to let statists stew in their steamy delusions. Reality isn't showing what they want to see, so they reinterpret it to be what they want. It's no longer reality, but they are feeling self-satisfied.

    2. Uh, Dave, it is not anarchists who ignore "reality". It is you. If you find the Thug-State to be "reality", you're welcome to it. Anarchists and other liberty-seekers know all too well about your State "reality". You would be wise to pay closer attention before your "reality" crashes through your door and plants its knee in your back!

    3. Anon 10:30,

Please note the quotation marks. I was merely adding to Kent's list.

  3. Has anyone seen the Monty Python movie, "The Life of Brian"? People think Brian is a messiah and he tries to tell them that he isn't. In one scene (gratuitous full frontal nudity of Graham Chapman) Brian opens his shuttered window to find a crown of people in the courtyard below clamoring for him. He tells them that they don't need him to tell them what to do, that they can do it themselves. The crowd replies, yes, we can do it ourselves... tell us what to do. And there it is in a nutshell. Too many people either can't or won't do it themselves. Maybe it's because of decades of government propaganda. Maybe it's laziness. Maybe it's fear of the unknown. Whatever it is, there are a whole lot more of them than there are of us.
