Politicians can't really be as dumb as they seem, can they?
I include all the appointed bureaucrats such as all the Secretaries of This and That- and especially Ben Bernanke. Ignorance must truly be bliss.
But, anyway, either they are all really, really dumb, or they are smart enough to appear to be dumb. Judging by the actions they take and the things they advocate I have a hard time accepting that premise.
I'll try to not underestimate them if I have to avoid them or deal with them, but it is still pretty hard to accept that they may not be as dumb as they seem. What amazes me the most is how many people- statists, anyway- don't see it, but instead praise these clowns for their "wisdom".
If that's "wisdom" or "intelligence" I want no part of it.
.
As I see it, all politicians are psychopaths. Psychopaths can look you or a large television audience in the eyes and lie through his or her teeth and none be the wiser. That is their stock in trade.
ReplyDeletePsychopaths have no compunction in the slaughter of hundreds -- millions -- of human beings to further political agendas. A psychopathic gangster named Truman once admitted he had absolutely no regret at having given the order to bomb Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Those atomic bombs instantly annihilated upwards to a quarter of a million men, women and children (no body count was ever possible due to the total devastation).
So the question of "dumbness" should always be tempered with the caution of the "dumb like a fox" understanding.
Foxes kill chickens. Foxes eat chickens. As far as we can tell Foxes have no guilt feelings after having killed and eaten as many chickens as they can get their claws on. All the hand-wringing, whining, gnashing of teeth -- particularly the idea of "voting" -- is not going to dampen the appetite of the foxes for chickens -- or politicians for treachery.
Never confuse dumbness with psychopathy.

Sam is right. Obedience to authority trumps following your conscience for statists; intelligence isn’t really a factor when you are subject to this authoritarian psychosis.
